What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?
We understand the value of work-life balance. We practice what we preach. We make time for friends, family, and community. Many of our clients simply erred in judgment which led to an arrest. Judgment gets clouded when people get too busy with the rat race of life. 90% of our clients are great people who may have been celebrating something, letting off steam, or having fun with friends. Doing all of this responsibly and leading a well-balanced life, will generally keep a client from getting re-arrested for DUI in the future. We spend time with our clients diving into who they are, why this happened, and what pragmatic steps they can take to reduce the likelihood of this happening again.
What made you choose your primary area of law?
I spent 3 crucial years while I was in law school clerking for one of the most respected and successful trial lawyers in Ohio. I learned more about how to be a trusted professional than anything else. DUI / Criminal law allows me to select the clients, cases, and causes based upon my own personal criteria. I will never allow my client's demands to get in the way of me being a trusted professional. This area of law allows me to "call the shots" on behalf of my clients. Also, we have such a streamlined operation, we can spend much more time on a client's behalf than any big law firm or solo practitioner could.
What makes your law firm unique?
My staff. Period. I personally recruited every single lawyer and paralegal. They are all paid well above average and operate independently. We have a paralegal that just monitors incoming new client inquiries. We have paralegals dedicated 100% to client e-mail and telephone calls. We have a Practice Manager that runs the day to day operations. I meet every single client and gameplan their case. Although I only personally handle about 20% of the cases, Attorneys Tod Brininger and Steve Fox are incredibly successful negotiators and courtroom lawyers for the other 80% of our cases. Our people make a difference.
Describe your ideal client.
An ideal client is one who will listen intently to what we are telling them, will give us a clear and reasonable goal, and is willing to accept the inherent risk and uncertainty associated with being prosecuted.
Describe your personal interests and hobbies.
I am an avid runner, traveler, and wine collector. I have 4 children that keep my wife and I busy every single day.
